Welcome to Brave Vocation

a space to grow racial responsiveness as a service-based professional & business owner

current offerings

  • Individual Support

I offer 1-on-1 coaching, supervision, and consultation to support growth in individuals’ racial identity development in order to be more racially responsive and anti-racist in professional practice.

    What does all that mean?

I work with primarily White people to increase knowledge, self-awareness, and skills regarding their own race as well as racism.

My theory-based approach is designed to result in improved quality and equity of professional services, improved relationships with the people they support or work with, increased leadership skills and readiness, and increased ability to communicate skillfully about race and racism.

  • Organization Training & Consultation

I provide a comprehensive array of consultation and speaking services, drawing from my extensive background as a psychologist, educator, and researcher. Consultation primarily focuses on addressing issues of racial inequity & need for improved racial responsiveness in the system.

My speaking expertise includes conducting workshops, delivering training sessions, and presenting to students, staff, faculty, healthcare professionals, and administrators.

Specialties: White Racial Identity Development Theory, racially responsive supervision, organizational racial culture & climate, racially responsive reproductive healthcare and perinatal mental healthcare, and career counseling during the perinatal process.

Hi, I’m Dr. Stephanie Thrower (she/her/hers)

I am interested in how systemic, intrapersonal, and interpersonal racism work together to maintain the status quo. I support professionals to manage complex, nuanced power dynamics, internal defense mechanisms, and systemic pressures in order to meaningfully address racial injustice at work.

change is good. growth is better.
